Control cables for pit bikes, motorcycles and quad bikes

Control cables are simple but important components of a motorcycle or quad bike. They transmit movement from a control to components such as the carburettor, clutch, mechanical brake or choke. A damaged, stiff or incorrectly routed cable can significantly impair control of the vehicle.

In this category you will find cables for pit bikes, mini motocross bikes, mini bikes, quad bikes, buggies and other vehicles. The current range includes 83 products divided into throttle, brake, clutch and choke cables.

Throttle cables for pit bikes and mini motocross bikes

The most widely used are throttle cables, which connect the twist grip or throttle lever to the carburettor. The range includes various options for pit bikes as well as specific vehicles.

Current examples include pit bike throttle cables in lengths of 935, 950, 990, 1015 or 1200 mm, as well as cables for 49, 125 and 250 cc ATVs or specific MiniRocket, Mikilon and Pentora models and buggies.

How do you choose the right throttle cable?

When choosing a throttle cable, it is not enough to know that it is intended for a 125 cc pit bike, for example. Two similar vehicles may use cables with different lengths or end fittings. When choosing, pay particular attention to the overall lengths of the inner cable and outer casing, the exposed inner cable length, the end fittings at the twist grip or throttle lever, and the connection to the carburettor. If you have the original cable available, it is best to compare the new part directly with it.

Brake cables

Brake cables are used with mechanically operated brakes. The current range includes, for example, brake cables in various lengths, drum brake cables and parking brake cables for selected buggies.

When choosing, check the lengths of the outer casing and inner cable, the shape of both end fittings, the mounting method and any adjustment options.

A brake cable is a safety-critical component. If it is frayed, damaged, heavily corroded or does not move properly inside the outer casing, its condition should be addressed before riding again.

Clutch cables for pit bikes

On motorcycles with a mechanically operated clutch, the clutch cable transmits movement from the lever to the clutch mechanism.

The correct length is important not only for fitting, but also for suitable cable routing around the handlebars, frame and engine. A cable that is too short or incorrectly routed can restrict movement or alter the clutch adjustment when the handlebars are turned.

After fitting, the clutch mechanism's free play must also be adjusted correctly for the specific vehicle.

Choke cables

On some carburetted engines, the choke is operated by a separate choke cable. The current range includes, for example, versions for ATV 125, buggies, Pentora 250, Mikilon Defender or 250 cc pit bikes.

Here too, the length, end fittings and compatibility with the specific carburettor and control mechanism are decisive.

Cable length is not the only important specification

Length is often one of the first specifications a customer looks for when choosing a replacement cable, but it does not guarantee compatibility on its own.

Two cables with the same overall length may have different end fittings, outer casing lengths, exposed inner cable lengths, adjuster threads or mounting methods.

We therefore recommend comparing all available dimensions and photographs with the original part before ordering.

Correct cable routing

A new cable should be routed so that it is not excessively tensioned, pinched or sharply bent when the handlebars move. It should also avoid contact with hot engine or exhaust components. After fitting, turn the handlebars fully in both directions and check that the throttle, clutch or other controlled mechanism moves freely and returns correctly. A correct, free return is particularly important for the throttle.

When should a cable be replaced?

Cables gradually wear during use. Inspection is particularly warranted if a control becomes stiff, the cable catches, the outer casing is damaged or individual strands of the inner cable are visibly damaged. However, the cable itself is not always the only possible cause. A stiff throttle can also be caused by the twist grip, carburettor or incorrect cable routing. With a clutch or brake, the cause may likewise lie in the mechanism being operated.
